When the heat is as fierce as we've seen these past few months, one of the only things we are willing to brave the summer sun for would be delicious local ice cream. While you can always find something delicious at a national chain ice cream shop, we thought we would share some of our local favorites with you.
According to their website, Brindles Awesome Ice Creams has been churning out classic favorites, original flavors and customers unique requests in their boutique parlor since 2001. With more than 30 Gelato and Ice Cream favorites, they are also serving up tastiness with espresso, ice cream cakes, and so much fun.
Down along the Riverwalk, you'll find Justin's, a quaint but always popular ice creamerie that has been a favorite for locals and tourists alike for over 30 years. Even Bill Clinton has remarked about its deliciousness. Come by and check out one of the tasty ice creams or gelatos. This place is cash or check only, so come prepared.
Lick Ice Creams is based just up the road in near-local Austin, but has its first San Antonio location in the Pearl. It offers one-of-a-kind flavors made with fresh, local ingredients from start to finish. No, really. They raise the cows to get the cream that makes their ice cream and work directly with local farmers and food artisans to source all of their ingredients. Daily selections include horchata, Texas sheet cake, dark chocolate with olive oil and sea salt, hot chocolate, roasted beets, fresh mint, and more. The menu changes with the seasons to match the perfectly sourced local offerings (think Cilantro Lime, Dewberry Corn Cobbler, and Sweet Persimmon & Sage flavors), but also Dairy Free and Vegan flavors as well.
Talk about a wow-factor- these culinary creations are made daily from fresh ingredients. The owners import nearly everything they can from Italy- as this is where the tradition began. Having studied as a Gelato apprentice for many years in Italy, the owners set up shop here in SA. You would be hard pressed to find a more deliciously authentic experience anywhere this side of the Atlantic. Open daily Wednesday- Sunday for Lunch and Dinner. Gelato flavors change daily.

Try this adult style way to enjoy the cool, lickable treat. at Boozy's, there are a variety of alcohol infused ice creams, and the option to throw a shot or two over some more traditional flavors too. A popular sampling is their flight of booze-infused ice creams, and one of the favorite flavors is the Bourbon Vanilla- a blend made with Jim Beam Honey. The rest of the menu is in constant rotation. Yes, there are kid-friendly non alcoholic versions available as well, upon request.
